ABOUT THE TRAINERS:
John Cornett's background in the addiction field has been extensive. In 1999, John worked at Operation PAR as a case manager for the Adolescent Residential Program at the Academy. In 2000, he was promoted to counselor and in 2001 to Clinical Supervisor. In early 2007, John accepted a position as a counselor with Adolescent Program at Phoenix House in Tampa and was quickly promoted to Clinical Supervisor.
Prior to 1999 and Operation PAR, John worked at Personal Enrichment though Mental Health Services where he supervised and counseled youths in residential treatment setting who were experiencing severe emotional and behavioral problems. He also has worked a psychiatric inpatient and juvenile detention facilities.
Shelba Waldron is a highly dedicated and ethical Human Services Professional experienced working with mental health, addictions, probation and the court systems. Noted for thinking outside of the box and bringing new ideas to improve methods and programs and to resolve old problems. Resourceful and assertive with demonstrated ability to lead teams and meet objectives.
Shelba has a strong understanding of the criminal mind, drug addiction and the effects of crime on society. She also has a strong understanding of your culture and society’s impact on the thought and behavior process of adolescents. She is a accomplished trainer have spoken at local, regional and national conferences. She holds a Master of Science in Criminal Justice and a Bachelor of Science.
COURSE SYNOPSIS: Participants in this training will learn about stages of change and the principles of motivational interviewing, increase knowledge of specific theories of substance abuse counseling, and how to apply these theories in session. The therapist will also develop knowledge of the five areas of wellness and how to use expressive counseling approaches to help clients achieve recovery and healing.
